JFC Tournament

I want to start by thanking a few people, I dont need to mention his name but without Chris Johnson the day would not have happened his untiring efforts and dedication to get the pitch ready gave us the perfect stage to hold our event, but as they say behind every great man is a women and this is true in his case as well, Lynn has been a star sorting and pushing teams to get them to commit to the day then organising the trophies and medals along with running the refreshment stall on the day with her willing helpers Elaine and Julie. Also the Hopkinson family coming up with the idea and running the bottle stall both these stalls proved to be a massive success raising nearly 300 pounds on the day.

Also a big thank you to Steve Robinson of South Kirkby and Brimwood for entering teams at very short notice.

The day was a total success with everyone getting into the friendly tournament mind set from the start.

We ran a two league set up with four teams in each league

But the results did not go our way in the group stages with all three teams failing to get in to the knock out stages.

This led to South Kirkbys two teams and Brimwoods two teams playing each other for third and fourth and for first and second,

The support split in to Yorkshire v Derbyshire as the winner from group one played the runner up from group two and visa versa.

And after Brimwood won one semi and South Kirkby won the other it left a perfect two final games to decide the Champions.

Brimwood succeeded in the first of two very tight games to claim third place leaving a disappointed South Kirkby team, and then went on in the main final to grab the grand prize of being 2009 champions.

A final note I have to say a well done to every Kid involved as there was no reason at any point for the refs to speak to any player in fact everyone behaved in the manner we wanted the Tournament to be run.

Well done and roll on next season.

Working Hard

20/09/08: Quarrydale JFC 11 Bolsover Old Boys 2 (A Vaughan 2)

Bolsover Old Boys again on their travels found Quarrydale JFC to be a tough team. Very little attack from the old boys saw them end the first half 5-1 down.

The team played well throughtout the remaining half with some excellent work from everyone. Player of the match was Reece Brown for an outstanding display of committment and hard work in midfield.

Next week sees another away match at ADASC, just off the A38 at Alfreton. Meet up at the usual place at 10am. KO at 11am.

Battling On

20/09/08: Shirebrook Rangers Red 8 Bolsover Old Boys 2 (A Vaughan 2)

What a first half! The Old Boys, without any subs and starting with only ten players on the field, battled like never seen before. The defence was solid and was boosted with midfield charging back to retrieve posession when it was lost. Rhys Hopkinson performed excellently after bravely volunteering to go in goal, a couple of nervy goals conceeded early but a number of great saves kept the game balanced. With some confident forward passes from defence to midfield and from midfield to the forward position the Old Boys looked determined to take something from the game. Aaron Vaughan made two brilliant runs from midfield to score two very good goals and the half ended 2:2. During the break and after a lot of hard work from everyone there was a sense of optimism and belief.

The second half kicked off and the Old Boys again worked very hard in all areas of the field, but with some fresh legs on the pitch for Shirebrook it wasn't long before it was 3:2. Bolsover seemed to tire very quickly on the full size pitch as Shirebrook where able to make change after change. A strong run from the opposition's full back saw him cut through the middle of the Old Boys and take the score to 4:2. Disaster struck midway through the half as Rhys collected an injury from a brave attemp to save a shot. With the scores at 5:2 and Bolsover looking very tired and down to nine it was innevitable that the game would end as it did at 8:2 to the home team.

The Manager stated that he was extremely proud of all of the players for trying so hard, everyone worked as hard as they could. Player of the match went to Kieren Brown for his workrate, commitment and determination, but it was a very close call to choose some one that stood out. Reece Brown and Oliver Johnson did their bit and more in midfield as did Jack Macdonald and Jack Ashley. Chloe Abel, Chloe Lucas and Lauren Brown battled very well in defence.

Next weeek, Saturday 27/09/08, the Old Boys are again on their travels and face Quarrydale JFC at Sutton-in-Ashfield 10am kick-off. Players should meet at 9am at Boslover Town Social Club car park wearing the home kit (tangerine).

New Keeper On The Way!

The former Ault Hucknall goalie is keen to join the Old Boys ranks and signing should take place in the next few days.

13/09/08: Old Boys 5 (J Macdonald 2, A Vaughan 3) Mansfield Athletic 10

The first league game of the season saw a 10 man Old Boys team take on a more complete squad from Mansfield and it wasn't long before the visitors where hitting the back of the net. Bolsover looked shell-shocked and lost on a huge 11-a-side pitch with a number of players missing due to illness & holiday. The first half saw a glimmer of hope with Jack Macdonald scoring a beauty from long range and the half-time break saw the score at 1-6 down.

With a change of keeper and a bit of change around in the outfield Bolsover looked hungrier and made a better game of it. Aaron Vaughan handed goal keeping duties to Jack Ashley and went on the rampage up front scoring a well deserved hat-trick. Jack Macdonald slotted his second goal from close range after a superb low cross from Aaron Vaughan finding space in the right-wing position.

In all, not a bad start to the season, considering the number of players not available but some work to do defensively, to try and boost the confidence of the players. Everyone had a good day in the field, some great passing from Oliver Johnson and Kieren Brown. Some solid tackles from Rhys Hopkinson, Chloe Lucas, Chloe Abel and Lauren Brown in defence.

Player of the match for the Old Boys was Jack Macdonald for an outstanding performance, hard work and determination.

The game finished 5-10 and with some excellent goals and very good goal keeping Mansfield deserved the win.

Next week (20/09/08) the Old Boys travel to Shirebrook to take on the Reds! Kick Off is scheduled for 10:30am at the Old Colliery ground. Players & Parents should meet at Bolsover Town Social Club car park at 9:30am - Tangerine Kit please! Jack M, don't forget to wear the goalkeepers gear!

Season Start Delayed!

The first match of the new 2008/2009 season was postponed due to bad weather. The scheduled game away at Shirebrook Rangers Blue will played later this year.

Another thank you to Mark Hopkinson and his colleagues at Cadbury who raised 93 by having a BOB JFC fund raising day in their office on Friday, this amount will be matched by Cadbury PLC totalling 186. Thanks to Nicky and the Bolsover Town Social club for a superb venue and thanks to Michelle Smith for a fantastic buffet.

Garry Johnson

In addition the parent Club Secretary would like to add:-

My sincere thanks on behalf of the parent club committee to Garry Johnson, who did an excellent job in delivering the majority of the speeches at the awards and also to all those who helped in making the day such a success. I would also like to reiterate all of the thanks that Garry mentioned at the award for helpers, committee, supporters and every one else that has contributed either with their valued time and/or financial help, you are all fantastic people who have made a large contribution to taking this particular section of the club forward.

Finally, I would like to express our sincere thanks and state how proud the club is of the players. In their first season they have conducted themselves in an excellent manner and you could see the improvement on the pitch taking place in every game. The players also did a supreme job on behalf of the club when acting as ball boys/girls recently at Saltergate, once again flying the flag for the club with honour, dignity and maturity which belied their age, we thank each and every one of you and look forward to seeing you all in action again next season, enjoy the summer break.
